Where to Place These Sections

Insert the following statements after the Discussion/Conclusion and before the References.

  • Order: Author Contributions → Funding → Availability of Data and Materials → Declarations (Ethics; Consent for Publication; Competing Interests) → AI Use Disclosure (if applicable).
  • Submissions missing these sections may be returned for completion prior to peer review.

1) Author Contributions (CRediT)

Describe each author’s role using the CRediT taxonomy (use initials).

2) Funding

  • If funded: “This work was supported by the [Funding Agency] under Grant [XXXXXX]. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the funder.”
  • If no funding: “This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”
 

3) Declarations — Ethics & Consent

Ethics approval and consent to participate

Consent for publication

4) Competing Interests

  • No conflicts: “The authors declare that they have no competing interests.”
  • Conflicts exist: “Author X has received research grants from [Company]. Author Y is a paid consultant for [Company]. All other authors declare no competing interests.”

5) AI Use Disclosure Writing Process Only

If generative AI/AI-assisted tools were used during writing (e.g., grammar, readability), disclose it. AI must not be listed as an author. Authors remain responsible for accuracy and integrity.

  • Disclosure example: “Portions of the writing were assisted by [Tool, version] to improve language clarity. The authors reviewed and edited the content and are responsible for the final manuscript.”
  • Figures/images: Do not use generative AI to create/alter scientific images unless it is part of the research method; if so, fully describe the tool, version, and workflow, and retain originals.
