About the Journal
About the Journal
Precision Medicine and Health Journal (PMHJ) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes research across the full spectrum of medicine and the health sciences. The journal exists for a simple reason: medical knowledge is most useful when it reaches everyone who needs it, quickly and without cost.
PMHJ publishes all types of medical and medicine papers. These include original research articles, randomised and non-randomised clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, observational and cohort studies, diagnostic and prognostic accuracy studies, case reports and case series, translational and bench-to-bedside research, genomic and molecular studies, epidemiological and public health investigations, health policy and health economics analyses, medical education research, methodological and computational advances, and expert reviews and commentary.
The journal takes its name from precision medicine: the practice of tailoring prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to the individual rather than to the statistical average. PMHJ is particularly interested in research that connects genomic, molecular, biomarker, imaging, environmental, and lifestyle data with real clinical decisions, and in studies that examine how those approaches perform in everyday practice and in health systems with limited resources.
PMHJ serves researchers, clinicians, postgraduate and undergraduate students, public health professionals, and policymakers. It publishes work from every country and does not discriminate by institution, seniority, or geography. Manuscripts are assessed on scientific merit, methodological rigour, and ethical conduct alone.
All content is published with immediate, unrestricted open access. Authors retain copyright of their work.
Focus and Scope
PMHJ covers the whole of medicine and the health sciences. Subject areas include, but are not limited to: internal medicine; general and specialist surgery; oncology; cardiology; neurology and neurosurgery; psychiatry and mental health; paediatrics and neonatology; obstetrics and gynaecology; endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism; gastroenterology and hepatology; nephrology and urology; pulmonology; haematology; immunology and allergy; infectious diseases; dermatology; ophthalmology; otolaryngology; orthopaedics and traumatology; rheumatology; anaesthesiology; emergency medicine and critical care; family medicine and primary care; dentistry and oral health; nursing and midwifery; pharmacy and pharmacology; pathology and laboratory medicine; radiology and medical imaging; rehabilitation and physiotherapy; medical education; health informatics and digital health; public health and epidemiology; global health; and allied health sciences.
Within these areas, the journal gives particular emphasis to precision medicine: pharmacogenomics and personalised therapeutics; biomarker discovery, validation, and clinical utility; targeted therapies and immunotherapies; molecular diagnostics; computational, artificial-intelligence, and machine-learning approaches to clinical decision-making; predictive and preventive medicine; and implementation research examining how precision approaches perform in real-world and resource-limited settings.
The journal accepts the following article types: original research; reviews and systematic reviews; meta-analyses; clinical trials; observational studies; case reports and case series; study protocols; short communications; letters to the editor; editorials and commentary; and methodological papers.
Peer Review Process
All submissions are first screened by the editorial office. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope, that are incomplete, or that fail basic ethical and formatting requirements are returned to the author without review.
Manuscripts that pass initial screening are checked for plagiarism, duplicate submission, and research-integrity concerns before being assigned to an editor. The handling editor then selects at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. PMHJ operates a double-blind review process: the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another throughout.
Reviewers assess originality, significance, methodological quality, clarity of reporting, adequacy of ethical approval and consent statements, statistical soundness, and whether the conclusions are supported by the evidence presented. They may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection, and may request additional analyses or data.
The handling editor makes the final decision, taking reviewer recommendations into account but not bound by them. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers or assessed by the editor. The journal aims to complete the first round of review within four to six weeks of submission, although this depends on reviewer availability. Authors can track progress at every stage through the journal's submission system.
PMHJ follows the ethical standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authorship, conflict-of-interest, data-availability, and research-ethics declarations are required for every submission. Confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer identities is maintained at all times. Authors who wish to appeal an editorial decision may write to the editorial office with a reasoned statement, and the appeal will be considered by an editor who was not involved in the original decision.
Open Access Policy
Precision Medicine and Health Journal provides immediate, unrestricted open access to all published content. Every article is made freely available on this website at the moment of publication, with no subscription, registration, embargo, or paywall of any kind.
This journal operates on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge, and that the results of medical research should be readable by everyone who can benefit from them, regardless of institutional affiliation or national income.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Under this licence, anyone may copy, distribute, transmit, adapt, and build upon the published work, including for commercial purposes, provided the original author and source are properly credited and any changes are indicated. This licence is recognised by major research funders and satisfies open-access mandates that require CC BY.
Authors retain copyright of their work and grant PMHJ the right of first publication. Authors are free to deposit the published version of their article in any institutional or subject repository, and to reuse their own work without restriction.
[REPLACE THIS PARAGRAPH] State your charging position here: whether PMHJ charges a submission fee, an article processing charge, or nothing at all. This must be accurate and easy to find, because DOAJ and other indexing services check it, and authors will not submit to a journal whose costs they cannot determine.
Archiving
PMHJ is committed to the long-term preservation of its published content. The journal participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides permanent archiving of OJS-based journals using the LOCKSS program. The PKP PN is certified as a trustworthy digital repository and is designed to keep published articles accessible even if the journal ceases to operate.
Authors are additionally encouraged to deposit the final published version of their article in an institutional or subject repository of their choice.
[REPLACE THIS PARAGRAPH] Once the PKP PN plugin is enabled and the journal is registered, replace this note with confirmation that archiving is active, and add any further arrangements such as CLOCKSS, a national library deposit, or an institutional repository.
